MEET JESSICA

Welcome to Sound Wellness Music Therapy, LLC! I'm Jessica, and I'm delighted to have you here. Combining my passions for music and helping others has been a lifelong dream since I first picked up the flute over 30 years ago. Music has always connected me to people's stories through making, composing, and performing.
Although I initially aimed to pursue music therapy after high school, life led me on a different path. I completed a graduate degree in Music Composition while working in student services in financial aid, academic advising, and scholarships. While I cherished my work with students and their families, my dream of becoming a music therapist never faded. I eventually returned to school, balancing full-time work and completed my Music Therapy Equivalency.
My training included a hospice and palliative care music therapy internship at Seasons Hospice in Portland, where I worked with adults and elders in end-of-life care, focusing on managing chronic pain. After completing my studies and passing the national board certification exam, I founded Sound Wellness Music Therapy, LLC. In addition to running Sound Wellness, I also serve as a clinical director at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, Oregon, where I manage and clinically supervise a team of creative arts and recreation therapists who primarily serve civil, voluntary, and jurisdictional patient commitments. My practice includes using voice, flute, guitar, piano, ukulele, and percussion.
My therapeutic approach is flexible, drawing from various philosophies to meet each client's unique needs, often incorporating humanistic and psychodynamic principles. Additionally, I am committed to social justice and strive to create an inclusive and equitable space for all clients. My music therapy practice utilizes voice, flute, guitar, piano, ukulele, and percussion to facilitate healing and growth.
Emphasizing a holistic, strength-based approach to therapy, the focus is on meeting each client's unique needs through music. It's a humbling and honoring experience to be part of clients' journeys, whether alleviating acute pain, creating a safe space for sharing feelings, or witnessing the joy of a student composing their first melody. Music offers a powerful means of support and connection.
At Sound Wellness Music Therapy, my commitment is to support you in your wellness journey through music, whether as a therapy client, a participant in our music wellness classes, or during an event. My hope is that music will become an enjoyable and integral part of your daily wellness routine.
